Make it Mobile: Does Your Website Need Remodeling?

Let’s be honest. When is the last time you went anywhere—out to lunch, to a meeting, to a job site— without seeing dozens of people on their phones? Your prospective clients aren’t any different. They’re on their phones, too!

Websites need to be specially optimized in order to look and function properly across multiple web browsers and devices. With the inescapable popularity of smartphones, mobile optimization is increasingly important. Many companies are creating separate mobile-only websites that are specifically built for smart phones.

Now, take out your cell phone. Go on, I know you’ve got it on you. Pull up your company’s website. How’s it looking so far?

4 Signs Your Website Needs Remodeled

1. Easy to Read

You want the content on your website to be accessible to mobile users. Font size may seem like a minor detail, but having the right-sized font makes a huge difference. Another thing to look for is the width of your website. If it’s too wide, some of the site will be hiding in the margins. Having to use your fingers to zoom in and out and scroll from side to side while trying to read your website on a phone is a frustration you don’t want for your clients.\

2. Mobile-Appropriate Content

Too much text can be overwhelming for mobile users, which is why mobile websites use condensed content that includes only the essentials. For example: contact info, including a click-to-call number, ranks at the top of the priority list for mobile content, while a lengthy company bio may not.

3. Website Design

Too many options and a busy screen make your website difficult to navigate for mobile users. You want the layout of your site to be clean and simple. Mobile websites in particular are built with layouts that facilitate ease of use.

4. Pictures, Videos, Etc.

Check all of your non-text content. Are all of your pictures visible? Do your videos play properly? These need to be optimized for mobile, too. Keep in mind that many phones (including all iPhones) do not support Flash.
